Something to consider:

 It is not the gun that is the problem, but the round fired.
 Guns are designed to fire a specific round.

 We don't allow public sale of hollow point, incendiary or explosive rounds. Nor do we allow private ownership of surface to air missiles or grenade launchers.

 The round fired by an AR 15 is DESIGNED to be supersonic at 500 yards. It's muzzle velocity is almost mach 3. It is the round that is dangerous, not the gun.

The Tryant Boor: A Machiavellian fossil.

Many people think that we are seeing the emergence of a new political animal as this presidential election cycle progresses.

Sadly, we are seeing a classic example of the Machiavellian tyrant. Compare what we are seeing with the early careers of Stalin, Mao, Mussolini and Hitler.

The behavior conforms to the archetype described in Machiavelli's "The Prince", so this 'new animal' is actually a fossil:

Proposed changes to titled roles in USA legislature

Why do our legislators worry more about 'getting people in line" than understanding the reasons for dissent?

 I fear that the words "Leader" and "Leadership" have irreversibly changed. This my list of outdated words and titles used in our legislature, and proposed replacements with more contemporary meaning:

Whip -> Taser, The Enforcer
Bill -> Nonsense Speaker -> Dictator ( alternate: BoomBox)
Leader -> Slave (as in sycophant to the _______ national party committee)
Sargent at arms -> The Bouncer
 Rider -> Parasite
 gain support -> Threaten
 gain support -> Pander

 Try substituting .....

 "The house Speaker spoke to senate minority Leader about this bill, who the sent the Whip to moderates in order to gain support and collect the Riders that would allow the Bill to pass."

 "The house Dictator spoke to the senate minority Slave about this Nonsense, who sent the Taser to moderates in order to {threaten, pander}, and collect the parasites that would allow this Nonsense to pass"

Healing Ingrid: Repairing major & minor cracks on a '95 VW Eurovan pop-top

There is a lot of misinformation out there about the pop-tops on VW Eurovans.

Winnebago wants to sell new ones at $4500 each, so they don't really cater to inquiries about repairs.

Some posts say that the top is made from PVC (Polyvinylchloride) plastic.  This is not true. The outer shell is made from ASA (Acrylonitrile-Styrene-Acrylate) plastic and the inner headliner is made from ABS (Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene) plastic.  Both are weldable

I just repaired some very large (3/4 of the way across the top) and some very small (1/2 inch) cracks, suing some simple, inexpensive tools and a little patience.

Home ownership: the American Necessity

When the US constitution was written, most people in the Americas were able to grow sufficient food for sustenance, or ran a small business which provided similar security. Even the slave population generally had access to land to grow food.

How can a nation of servants be expected to govern themselves?

It follows that home ownership ( free title - not mortgaged) is not the American Dream, but is the American Necessity.

Military custody provision

With regard to the current legislation to give the military authority to detain and hold individuals without charge or trial:

It is interesting that in order to combat current, and future, totalitarian regimes abroad, that our elected representatives in congress find it necessary and prudent to install the basic machinery of a totalitarian regime at home............

I suppose that if one cannot establish a one-party state by popular vote, then it is reasonable to use a campaign of domestic terror, as both hitler and mussolini did, and command compliance by threat of imprisonment for whimsical charges that have no basis in either civil or criminal law.
